Who Is The Next Legend??

----This is a converstation I have had for the last few days with various people including Gene Jackson, Brian Thompson and workers that would rather kayfabe. I will comment on it more when I can get a discussion going about it, because I have my ideas - I just want you guys to think!! LOL

----The year is 2022 and I am planning a big "Legends" show celebrating 15 years of rasslinriotonline.com. Who would be on that show?? Please do not say Bill Dundee and Jerry Lawler, because we all know THEY WILL BE THERE. LOL But, what other person or persons has Memphis Wrestling and the surrounding area built to replace the current legends??

Brian Christopher(if he can stay out of trouble), Spellbinder(Del Rios), Kevin White, Dustin Starr, Johhny Dotson, Derrick King, Tattoo, Greg Anthony, Austin Lane, to name a few.

I'd have to say that you would want Derrick King on the card for sure. Kevin White, Spellbinder, Tatt2, and on the tag-team side of it you would definately want Too Kool 2 and against the original Too Cool.

The year 3000??

I honestly don't think Kevin White and Derrick King will be around til the year 3000?

2060 maybe, but not another 993 years.

I think just by STILL being there some of those guys will be considered "legends" but unless in the next few years there is a change in the booking of Memphis Wrestling allowing them to get over and establish themselves as "stars" things will be the same as they are now and the fact is as mentioned in the previous post NONE of them draw. Get mad if you want folks but there's numbers to back that up, that's not a random statement, it's the sad truth. Say what you will about Dundee and Lawler and the like but these guys drew hundreds of sold out houses and packed out the coliseum for years, currently these guys can barely draw a couple of hundred people with the help of established guys like Dundee and Lawler. I'm not saying it's these guys fault, the reason Lawler and Dundee drew in their day was thanks to great booking and angles where nowadays it's thrown together bullshit that changes week to week and people can't get into it cause storylines are constantly being dropped or altered for no reason and the SAME old people are being pushed while young talented guys are floundering as jobbers to guys like Mr. Hughes whose never been a draw anywhere or Corey Maclin who rather than spending time trying to book a decent television show and promote his live events he's too busy trying to find a way to keep putting himself on tv with KoKo. It's just a shame what Memphis Wrestling has become and I really don't know it there's any life left in it. Perhaps Randy Hales should hang up the spatula at Sonic and come take another crack at it. So to answer the question, yes the same guys you've been seeing on Memphis TV will still be floating around and working shows in the area but will they be considered "legends", it depends on who you ask?

well i would have to go with DK of course and since lawler puts nobody else over there will be nobody else what a sad day indeed as DK says i'm Derrick King dammit to a sold out crowd of ten as corey maclin sits with a microphone headset on his head twitching and mumbling "BIIIIGG MOOOOOOVE" over and over again meanwhile outside the studio you can find sal corrente sitting in front of a dumpster mumbling " i swear he hit me really hard your honor" however in an alternate reality where your spot in mempho is based on sheer talent alone then we find DK once again ( because he is that damn good whether you like him or not you gotta respect him lol),Picture Perfect are making a guest appearance on break from the big japan tour after being ousted from the WWE because they looked to much like Hunter and Shawn...then we find Austin Lane who after an illustrious career in the independants finally achieved his dream of becoming A.J.'s cousin in a T.N.A. storyline and manged to capture the X-division title for a stunning 10 year reign and to this day still holds the title(nobody has the heart to tell him T.N.A. went bankrupt 9 years ago), the TGB himself is also here, he once had a promising career in the local scene but after a big blowout at a TLCW summer showdown show when Lawler said he was too short to put over TGB snapped and applied the goldilock on lawler for shoot and and kept screaming about psychology versus spots, lawler was never the same after that and faded into obscurity as Kevin White became the new king of...no wait i can't even joke about something like that guys....but seriously TGB went on to train his son XAVIER who now holds every singles title in every promotion in every country known to man and nobody can beat him...he even defeated Austin Lane but he didn't have the heart to take the belt and was quoted as saying "let the kid keep it he's earned it"...and there are a few others as well but as i said it is a reality that will sadly never be in the world of memphis championship lawler...uh i mean wrestling

Agree with a lot of what Gene's saying - the story lines jump around so much, if you were just an ocasional viewer you'd never have a clue as to what's going on. To answer the specific question, I'd have to say Kevin White and Derrick King as the two most obvious choices. And while they may never reach "legend" status, I gotta say I really enjoy the Insane Clowns. When they first came out, I thought "Oh no, not clowns again!", but they've really grown on me.

Think about this - who has had the most exposure on Memphis Wrestling besides Jerry Lawler and Bill Dundee in the last 10 years?? Corey Maclin, Derrick King and Spellbinder.

For a brief period of time JPW had some outstanding shows. They just did not have the money to continue. I hope I am not giving away secrets but JPW used a manager as their booker and it worked. Even if he was only two inches taller then a midget.

I have not been to a show at Sam's Town, but I have been told that there have been some good matches. I plan on going soon, to find out for myself.

Alan Steel, Tim Grind, DK, NbN, and a lot more could be headliners if the booking was done as it should be done. Keep in mind that DK holds at least one win and I think a couple of wins over Lawler.

Now, watch me get in trouble. Tatt2 or Johnny Dotson getting a clean win against Del Rios just would never be real to me. I like Reno Diamond, but let me add him to the list also.

Duston Starr can work a match also with the right bookings and the right opponent.

Again there are some really good workers in this area but with the current booking, none of them are going very far in the business.

Couldn't figure out how to start a new thread (not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to computers and internet) so I'll ask this question here:

Is Reggie B. Fine capable of carrying a serious story line? He's great with the comedy stuff, and I can remember at least once him coming on and saying he was through with the comedy, and was ready to be taken seriously, but nothing really came of it. Does he have the skills to wrestle a good match without all the usual goofy stuff, or is he really that limited?

The day of the legends is over with. I agree with what Gene said. Another problem is once somebody becomes too good they are hired by the WWE or currentlt NWA TNA. Used to be Memphis was a destination and not just a stop to go someplace else.
