Void/Walker interview?? What did you think??

----So, what did you think?? I am a bit on the fence on this one. I have worked places before that kept treating me like shit - no pay and such. But, when you got guys like Void/Bradley - with real good talent - why would they continue to work for TIWF when they were not getting paid?? The whole situation would be partially their fault for staying; right??

I would have to agree with you. It is partially their fault for staying as long as they did. The production has to be on the up & up with it's workers also. The workers should also know and understand that you are getting paid on drawing power, so if you want more, work more on your craft. That means learn some therory and how to work the crowd. That will creat drawing power.

bluesman makes a good point.

I've had discussions with several people in the past about the fact that while their may be a lot of talented workers in the mid south area, how many of them truly draw? Who can you book on a show and people will come out to pay to see THEM, not just a show but that "star" in particular. In my opinion there aren't a lot you can say that about.

Jerry Lawler can still be consider the "cash cow" in this area. His drawing power may have been hurt after the Hogan fiasco as we will be able to see by the end of the year, if the "Sam's Town" shows do not pick up. They are drawing 300 people with over 40,000 people watching their TV - something is wrong. #2 Money maker in this area is a radio DJ. LOL Brandon Baxter has drawn some good gates over the year vs Austin Lane.

Good points BT. Drawing power also has a lot to do with TV and I'm not talking about a little hour slot on local access. Those are better than nothing, but to really be successful you need a slot on a broadcast affiliate. Now, once you have that, you need a quality show. Unfortunately, we don't have that in this area. To me, what hurts Lawler is his lack of competition. We've seen him against Sid, Kamala, etc. many times before. So it's not as effective as it used to be. Now, if you had a new monster coming up and pitted him with Lawler, someone we've never seen and someone who will make people sit up and take notice, then you'd see Memphis houses go up.
A great example of a quality product on an affiliate was Bert Prentice's Ozark Mountain promotion. It wasn't the greatest show, but he booked it well enough to make yours truly sit outside the Dexter, MO National Guard Armory many times for two hours just to get a ringside seat. His show was on KAIT TV-8 late night on Saturdays. He had a top baby (Colorado Kid) vs. opponents who you thought he might beat or he might not (Landell, Rich, Smothers, Dundee, Motley Cruz, Cactus Jack, Mike Samples, Bull Pain, etc.)

Yeah, that's the sad part Jerry Lawler a legitimate legend really isn't THAT big of a draw these days. Meanwhile there are a ton of guys you can book for great matches but as for actually drawing you a crowd with their "name value" there aren't many and if you judged guys nowadays on if they've "ever drawn a dime" like in the old days the list of "stars" would be nearly non existent.

I've been in this area for a year and a half now. From what I've seen, some of the workers are only intrested in putting themselves over and getting their stuff in. If they would worry about putting the opponent over, their stuff would mean more when it's their turn. You don't always have to win to get over. Also you have to be flexible with your gimmick, find the one that the people will buy. That will make people come to see you.

I can and will answer EXACTLY why we stayed and everything else you'd want to know as soon as we have a sit down interview, BT... I know everyone is a little "befuddled" (I did go to college you know? lol) as to why all of this went on and what I could possibly come up with for an explination for the way I acted... so, come on down to NBW, see an honest to God really good wrestling show with good WORKERS, sit down with me and bring LOTS of audio tape... hope to see you there..

It's all about the "draw" know days and if you can or can't draw.

Wonder if Brandon Baxter would like to do a couple of Memphis shows, I mean they brought back Scott Bowden. baxter could really draw some heat and could.

I kind of do think of the Hogan/Lawler thing has hurt the King a little but he can still draw.

I do not know Void and I do not know the current Wrestling in this area. Due to health problems, I had to drop out of local wrestling somne time ago. I attempted to listen to the Void interview and could not understand what was being said most of the time.

The same people that were draws when I was active are the same people who could draw now. The last live show that I attended was a couple of years ago in Ripley TN. Tim Grind had that crowd worked up as only he can do. "Cotton Top" can still work a crowd when he wants to work. But, I have seen times he was great and other times when he just went through.

The problems today, is booking more then workers. In MY opinion LAW went under is Dyersburg because of poor booking, not the workers. If anybody wants to debate that, I will welcome it.

You also need to remember that the fans are the ones that are paying the money. I don't think you can insult the fans and keep them for very long. That's another issue we can get into.

Finally, matches have to appear to be real or the fans are not going to buy it.

I agree with Hal,the workers have to do a better job of convincing the fans that every thing is real. To ado this they must slowdown, and not try to get everything in in just 10 min. You have to give the fans time to read the story that you are trying to tell. Guys move so fast that the fans can't keep up or get into what you are tyring to say. Slow down and grab a hold and take it to the mat sometimes. besides being wrestlers we are also story tellers. We wrestle for the fans not ourselves. So work your gimmick and give the fans a story they won't forget.
